Under construction

This is going to be mostly negative, I'm afraid. That's largely because, if something's already OK, then nothing needs to be done — and my reason for writing is the hope that things will be changed.

Hell is other people

I don't often quote Sartre, but it's difficult to argue with this one. Not all other people, though (at least, not in AQW); there's a large minority (or small majority?) of players who are either indifferent to others or who positively enjoy being unpleasant. This section concerns what could (and should) be done about them.

I'm not going to get into questions of taste, and I want to make clear at the beginning that that isn't what this is about. So, though I find it difficult to understand people who think that it's "cool" or "awesome" (whatever those fatuous terms mean) to dress up as a turkey, or an animated greengrocer's stall, or a tomato on steroids, that's their problem not other people's. When, however, they equip pets (which don't do anything) and dragon wings and other animated equipment, and turn up at a party whose invitations asked people not to equip such things — then the problem is other people's. Not only do such things aggravate lag (which can be a serious obstacle to enjoying the game), but they can make targetting (or even seeing) monsters difficult; an Enforcer with a Twilly head and Draconian wings, wielding a Draconian oversized sword, takes up a very large area of the screen...

Sometimes they unequip it all when asked, but all too often they refuse, either ignoring requests or becoming aggressive and even rude. What can be done about this? There are a few really really obvious options:

  1. Either a server or a range of rooms within servers (e.g., 1,000-2,000) could be set not to allow pets, cloaks, etc. Then people who want to have a party free of such things could then hold it on that server or in one of those rooms.
  2. The organiser of a party (perhaps the first person to arrive at a room with a number above 1,000) could have the power to boot offending people into another room.
  3. The "/ignore" function could be tweaked, so that if a certain number of players ignored an offender, that person would be barred from the room.

Catering for all levels

At the moment, once you get to level 20 the game loses some of its point. Once you've taken to rank 10 all the armours you want to, it loses almost all its point. I suppose that a rank cap makes sense, as there's not even a fifth skill yet, but I don't really see the point of the level cap (nor the enhancement cap of 11 for weapons).

Of course, if there were a genuine plot, then levelling and ranking would only be milestones along the way, but there isn't one; levels and ranks are pretty much the only real goals in the game (except for those who see it as a sort of fashion parade for showing off the latest weapon or back-gear).

Joe Mysterious's comments

I hate to say it but your right most armors* are either weird looking or if its really truly cool its member only! And most bosses are lvl 25 meanwhile your still fighting with a lvl 8 or 11 enhanced weapon and even if u get a group u still cant be sure if they will show! Also i would be hesitant to become a member for the following reasons: The graphics are often bad or offending (like the female jester) or too babyish, cartoonish or immature. Second is that most areas are sloped right on to the map full of bugs and errors (such as iccave)or they constantly kick you out with no reason. Third is that most items in the game are members only such as pets and most weapons almost forcing you to be a member.Fourth is that most chat systems aren't fixed causing younger players to feel offended. So there you go that's mostly all of them there's more but i don't want to go into that now.*Oh and btw you forgot the banana suit looking like a 70s rubber leisure suit. Please note i am not trying to criticize but the game designers but to help them make this game better.
